Yoga in pregnancy
Pregnancy
is a period of big change in woman’s life. These nine
months gestation become for many women an initiatory event, the discovery
of life’s values, a deep knowledge of oneself, the
conquest of an interior peace, of a maturity and of a new sense of one’s
responsibilities.
From the beginning of pregnancy, the future mother follows the formation of her baby with the totality of her person, of her energies. The tight bonding between body and spirit is particularly urged by all what any mother lives during the nine months, not only physically, but also emotionally. Baby’s health starts in mother’s heart and mind. Any mother lives a deep psycho-biological transformation, which needs security.
Pregnancy is a real lab which offers various changing possibilities. But during
this time, the woman needs to be guided, nurtured, assured, specially when
the pregnancy is the first one. Therefore a preparation to child birth followed
during the last two months only is not sufficient. The woman must prepare
herself to become another person, and this task refers not only to the psychological
dimension of her life but also to the biological dimension. Her worse enemy
is

fear, which grows due to the many media information. She should not let herself
be influenced by external information, but look inside herself, she should
look at herself and at her baby. Any woman during pregnancy should become
conscious of her power: she is forming the baby she carries in herself. For
fulfilling this task, the most sacred of her life, the future mother should
learn to maintain healthy her body, to calm her mind, to control her emotions
and to get in contact with her baby and play with him from the first moment.
The word Yoga could evoke some acrobatic, spectacular positions, the head upside down and the legs twisted around the neck… impossible for many people and specially for pregnant women. But Yoga is not this. The yoga exercise preferred by the baby to be born is to hear its mother laughing… A wave of well being invades its little body, it lays down, stretches its arms and legs enjoying the beneficial emotion he receives from its mother
Yoga during pregnancy means : breathing, emission of sounds, simple exercises for stretching the muscles, strengthen the back, free the pelvic and prepare the pelvic floor. Yoga during pregnancy means : to listen to oneself, to one’s body, to learn to love it, to listen to the baby and to its uterine environment. Yoga during pregnancy means to learn concentration, relaxation, to enter harmoniously into maternity, to abandon oneself to the natural evolution of gestation
The scientific modern researches show that body’s health and mind’s harmony are strictly bound together. During pregnancy, this state of well being is twice important, because from this state depends the harmonious development of the baby in uterus and its punctual birth with a natural delivery.
